President Trump and COVID-19: Actions and reactions

Even as COVID-19 wreaks havoc across the globe, President Trump continues to grab headlines as he takes on an aggressive stand in his attempt to rein in the threat. With the pandemic likely to influence the upcoming elections in a huge way, Piplsay reached out to Americans nationwide to understand their changing thoughts and opinions. Political parties can leverage this data in their decision making.

President Trump may be claiming that he was being sarcastic with his disinfectant comment, but some of his recent announcements and decisions have generated quite a lot of debate across the world.  As America struggles to emerge out of the COVID-19 pandemic, how are Americans looking at Trump’s leadership at this crucial juncture? Do they agree with his thoughts and actions? Piplsay polled 20,287 Americans to get these answers. Here’s a summary of what we found:

  • 65% of Gen Xers and Millennials think it is too early to reopen the economy
  • 67% of Black Americans and Whites and 63% of Hispanics want social distancing to remain in place for some more time
  • 52% of Baby boomers think President Trump should not promote unproven treatments as compared to 41% of Millennials
  • A majority of men (42%) think President Trump was right in halting WHO funding as compared to just 29% of women

Survey Methodology: This Piplsay survey (powered by Market Cube) was conducted nationwide in the US in the month of April 2020. We received 20,287 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older.
